Form teams and find best solutions in the fields of Financial Mathematics and Actuarial Science!
Students at all levels of studies are invited to apply for the competition within the 8th European Congress of Mathematics and win a cash prize of € 1,250!
The competition is held under the auspices of the Slovenian Insurance Association.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION
The competition is announced as part of the 8th European Congress of Mathematics, taking place online from 20 to 26 June 2021. The 8ECM is one of the largest events in mathematics in 2021 and one of the most important scientific events in Slovenia, hosting over 1000 mathematicians from around the world. The main sponsor of the 8ECM is the Slovenian Insurance Association, which will award cash prizes in the total amount of € 5,000 as part of this competition.
There are 4 challenges available.
The best team within each challenge topic is the winner of cash prizes in the amount of € 1,250!
HOW THE COMPETITION WORKS
Teams can have up to three members, and will be tasked with solving one of 4 challenges of their choosing.
Following the evaluation process in the 1st round, the best teams will progress to the 2nd round where they will eventually present their solutions at the final Career Day, to be held online during the 8ECM official program on Thursday, 24 June 2021.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
The competition is open to anyone with student status, regardless of their level of study (i.e. undergraduate, master's and doctoral students) or which Faculty or University they are enrolled at. The official language of the competition is English, so we kindly invite all foreign students to apply!
TEAMS
Students can participate in a team of one, two or a maximum of three members. If a student competes individually, they are considered as a “one-member-team”, equal to all other teams. Teams can be mixed in regard to their field or academic level of study. Each student can be a member of only one team.
CHALLENGES
Teams will work to solve one out of four available challenges. Some tasks are more practical in nature; there is an emphasis on numerical results. Others are more theoretical with more emphasis on descriptive writing.
The challenges are:
The teams can choose and prepare for their challenge before submitting their application (deadline 1 June 2021). Once the team applies for the challenge, all members will receive access to a forum where they can contact their mentors (authors of the challenge) for guidance and possible additional information and upload their solutions.
